I share the same sentiments as Ms Bernadette Munro-Scott regarding Darwen town centre, and am at a loss to know what ‘the towns image’ is supposed to be.
This is not Rome or Venice, where great empty squares are there to accommodate world tourists.
We are a market town, and markets are renowned for a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Where shoppers feel welcome.
Well the kindest person going could not describe our Market Square as warm and welcoming.
Desolate and bare is nearer the mark.
Give back to us some seating arrangement, and our flower pots and greenery, and make it a pleasure to come along and shop.
Of this empty space is for the benefit of music festivals etc- we use it 52 weeks of the year, not once and we do pay tax for that privilege.
So, powers that be, what about it? Put the heart back into our town. We’re worth it!
M SCOTT, address received.
