Following Michael Lee’s comments at the public meeting about the bus lane in Preston Old Road, Blackburn, it transpired that a small oversight was made in the proposals, which meant that the reduction in parking space width was omitted.

Now we are told getting rid of the bus lane is not an option. We are also told the engineer responsible for the extravagance doesn’t see a parking problem, and wanted to see the traffic moving freely. Well, if he had done a thorough survey, he would have noted that traffic build-up inbound occurred from 8am to approximately 9am, with the only other traffic problem being very large crowds attending certain funerals at Pleasington. Hardly enough to warrant the cost and upheaval.

The money would have been better spent in installing cameras at the Buncer Lane lights, as many drivers do not seem to understand what the red light is for. To say the Witton scheme is designed to improve traffic flow on that stretch is far from reality.

Ask the residents. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?
