IN answer to Coun Paul Browne and Coun Alan Cottam regarding the vast problem of litter in Darwen and Blackburn, I have to wholeheartedly agree with them.
Our streets, backs of houses, grass verges and hedgerows, are an absolute disgrace. The way we live today is appalling.
For the best part of twenty years I worked within the community as a telephone engineer so I have seen the constant dumping of litter at first hand, and you know what? It’s because people have no pride anymore, no pride in themselves or the area they live in.
It’s absolutely disgusting to see the filth in back streets.
Why oh why can’t we as a nation return to the proud people we once were?
I am 62 and when I was a youngster the housewives of the day used to sweep the fronts and backs of their houses. They were so proud of their homes.
What has happened to us as a nation? I am the first to admit, life isn’t easy at all these days.
