The hypocrites at the Town Hall are “at it” again... I refer to proposals by the council to designate a non residential area for sex workers (prostitutes) to operate from without being moved on by the police (LT 17/6).
The proposal was suggested by angry residents from Blackburn’s Bank Top area at a council meeting who’s lives were being made “a misery” by the prostitutes, pimps and clientele.
It was also reported that prostitutes were already travelling from Manchester to work the streets in Blackburn.
Designating an ‘area’ for prostitutes to operate will not only be seen to legitimise the ‘trade’, but will inevitably bring even more ‘street workers’ from other areas within the North West and further a field. It will put more money into the pimps’ pockets, and that of the drug pushers. Our environment will be increasingly polluted with used condoms and needles.
Once picked up the prostitutes can and will be taken into other areas.
Liberal Democrat Coun Salim Lorgat sees the problem as solely ‘residential complaints’ and therefore backs the proposals.
The vast majority of crime is brought about by drug addiction which in turn is peddled by the ‘pushers’ who supplement their illegal and illicit trade by pimping prostitutes. Legitimise prostitution in a town and I am certain that all crime will increase in direct proportion to it.
Labour Coun Andy Kay even suggests ‘legalised brothels’ to combat the problem, but fails to go beyond residential complaints which in no uncertain terms will not be addressed in creating brothels around the town!?
Put into simpler terms, would the council therefore suggest that to counter teenage drinking on the streets they would consider designating areas where youths could continue drinking?
Perhaps there will be room in Blackburn Cathedral now that they have made it quite clear that BNP members and supporters are no longer welcome?
