IN response to ‘Teacher’s fury at council dance ban’ (LT, June 13), I am the teacher in question and it was my Academy's students they tried to ban.
The article was excellent and the feedback and support I have received has been over whelming.
The students who wanted to perform were all keen volunteers and had given up their own personal time and, as with all shows, performances and events we participate in, it was unpaid.
How can this be exploitation (a word the welfare officer repeated several times when I asked how she could do this to children)?
Also, when I phoned the welfare office at 2pm on Friday, I was told the officer had finished for the weekend and would not be back in work until Monday at 9am. Obviously, Child Welfare is only a concern between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
