A new musical opens this week based on singer Al Jolson. As we all know, Jolson was a huge star and part of his act was to have black grease-paint on his face.
However, the producers of this show were worried that the make-up would upset diversity conscious members of the audience so star Allan Stewart will have to perform without it.
I find that farcical as Al Johnson is an historical figure where wearing black greasepaint was part of his act.
Once again the politically correct brigade rule over both common sense and accuracy.
And by the way, Jolson, a Jewish immigrant, was a fearless champion of racial equality.
