MOST people would agree that whoever is the Prime minister of Britain has one of the most demanding jobs going and would expect the salary to reflect that.

The current Prime Minister, Gordon Brown is paid £189.994 a year. However, in a list published by the Tax-Payers Alliance nearly 200 public sector fat cats earn more money than the Prime Minister earns. Four of them earn more than £1million a year.

And while public sector workers such as teachers, nurses, firemen etc have to accept 2 per cent rises, a total of 387 public servants received an annual rise of more 10.9 per cent.

The list also highlights senior executives receiving massive pay rises and generous bonuses irrespective of whether they are performing well or not.

For example. Ian Coucher, chief executive at Network Rail and Adam Crozier Chief Executive of Royal Mail were paid £1.2million, and very few people will think that both companies have been well run and efficient under their stewardship.

At a time of financial crisis when almost everyone in the Country is feeling the pinch it is in my opinion amoral to pay these salaries which in many cases is rewarding failure.

Unfortunately when the Government urges responsible pay restraint on the general public it does not apply to the top executives who milk the system for all it is worth.
