With reference to Mr Sulman's letter (LT, November 13) regarding use of the Union Flag.
I understand his frustration at not being able to declare his ethnicity on forms. I have the same problem, having to put ‘`British’ instead of ‘English’.
However, I think he has got the wrong end of the stick in thinking that pride in our flag is an indication that indigenous people feel superior to others. That is no more the case here than it is with the ‘Stars and Stripes' in the US.
There is nothing wrong about being patriotic about your country of birth and wanting to protect your long established way of life for which very many brave people have laid down their lives to protect.
Many people are becoming very concerned about their loss of identity and independence. This includes our laws being dictated by the EU, and unfettered immigration (again largely via the EU) into a country with struggling health care, schools, housing, police etc.
The Union Flag/NF correlation is old hat, in the past, and needs leaving there.
