ON Saturday, September 20 my family and I went to Blackburn Market, as a leaflet I had picked up a few weeks earlier advertised a speciality foods and crafts market.

The leaflet advertised speciality food stalls, live music, face painting and cookery demonstrations. There were no speciality food stalls, no live music, no face painting, but there was a cookery demonstration and two stalls, one selling home made cardigans and one selling hand painted crockery.

I always liked shopping on Blackburn market, but I was really shocked to hear about how much rent they pay. I spoke to a trader and when they mentioned they were paying £1,700 I thought it was for the year, but that was for a month.

Instead of printing false advertising leaflets Blackburn with Darwen Council should be concentrating on keeping on the stalls by reducing their rent.

I was really happy to hear one trader saying that in the past few months they have had younger people coming to the market and commenting on how much better and fresher the chicken, meat and vegetables are compared to the supermarkets. So come on Blackburn markets managers save the market before it’s too late.
