BURNLEY College principal John Smith and Burnley Enterprise chief executive Shufkat Razaq would defend the £6.5million Working Neighbour-hood Fund spending (£6.5million cash plan is defended, LT October 13) because their organisations benefited.
Those who haven’t benefited are ground-level local community-based groups and organisations who can have real and immediate impacts on worklessness .
The title ‘Working Neighbour-hood Fund’ is a big hint as to what the money was really meant for!
If there is a ‘bigger picture’ and ‘vision’ for Burnley as council leader Gordon Birtwistle says in the article, then tell us what it is.
There are lots of people, including business owners and I’m sure the unemployed, who’d love to know. At present that communication is missing from Burnley Town Hall.
