THE food wastage posters which have been prominently displayed around the area have left me puzzled.

They state that the average family wastes one third of all the food it buys and that the amount that is wasted costs £400 per year per family. This implies the average spend on food per year is £1,200 per family.

So an average family could exist just spending £100 per month on food? Or have I completely misunderstood the message?

Last year’s posters from Blackburn with Darwen Council stated that borough residents lived on average eight years less than residents of other areas. If this is actually true, could the reason be malnutrition?

How much money is Blackburn with Darwen Council wasting on producing these very odd statistics? Perhaps the money would be better spent on food parcels.
