RE plans to put a road through St Peter's Cemetery, Blackburn. What is the matter with Blackburn with Darwen Council, why are they having to desecrate this sacred ground for the sake of a road?

Would it not be cheaper and more caring to re-route the road and build a couple of roundabouts rather than disturb the dead?

I grew up around Bank Top during the 50s and 60s and we often walked through St Peter's after we'd been to Freckleton Street baths.

It was a beautiful churchyard. The thought of a possible 3,000 bodies being dug up for a road sickens and saddens me.

This is yet another example of this council's shortsightedness, just like Church Street and the Lewis Textile Museum. The councillors who have been on the planning committee for this latest debacle should be named and shamed.
