LAUREEN and Derek Smith (LT, December 31) had to pay £160, later refunded, for a taxi from Southampton to Rishton, a journey of 300 miles.
For a return journey from Blackburn to John Lennon Airport, Liverpool, in October, starting out at 4pm the clock in my taxi recorded £115 (51 miles x 2) and the taxi ended up where it started!
In November at 8pm a taxi from Blackburn Boulevard to Limefield, Preston New Road cost me £4.80 (keep the change), a journey on foot about a mile and a quarter but by taxi a roundabout route!
Are there any standards we can use?
