I READ with interest the weekly column written by Shuiab Khan (LT, November 23), about his feelings and reaction towards the England football team failing to qualify for Euro 2008 next summer.
He mentioned that he can now look forward to a summer free from people asking him which team he supports.
I wonder if these people he refers to only ask him that question because they are aware that his loyalties are seemingly divided, depending on which England team is involved.
His loyalties appear to be divided to me, as I remember an edition of his weekly article in 2005 where he openly expressed his dislike of the England cricket team.
In it he declared he supported Pakistan, and belittled England and their achievement of beating Australia (something which Pakistan failed to do the previous winter) to regain the Ashes.
I have no problem with Shuiab giving his support to Pakistan, indeed I also support them as I have many relatives over there.
However, I don't see why it should be at the expense of England.
Remember Shuiab, the England football and cricket teams both represent the same country.
More to the point, they represent the country which you have made your home, and where you have a good job and enjoy a good standard of living.
So why back one England team but not the other? It is important to bear in mind an old saying: "Don't bite the hand that feeds you."
There is also nothing wrong with supporting more than one national cricket team.
