WITH regard to the front page story of headstone problems at Pleasington Cemetery and the costs to be levied - why can't headstones be laid down on graves?

The story of the relentless march of "tat" on the graves and surroundings has been missed.

We have graves adorned with all sorts of memorabilia from plastic rabbits to angels with windmills, sentimental cushions and the inevitable cuddly toy, though just what the state the latter would be inafter heavy rainfall you can't imagine.

Plaques have been placed by trees - lovely - only to have the trees adorned with trailing streamers, wind chimes, climbing plastic animals etc while their bases have acquired the same attention as the graves.

By all means remember loved ones, but take your shrine home and leave flowers only to complement the grave as it has been since cemeteries began.

How did the parks and cemeteries department allow this unsightly situation to develop?
