I AM writing about the terrible state of the roads in our area of Hyndburn.

Following my lost letter on the subject, I was again visited by Mr Parkinson who once again explained that the budget for the roads was held by Lancashire County Council and the flowers are dealt with by the local Hyndburn Council budget.

As far as I am concerned I pay my taxes and the powers that be share it out.

When will the councillors and officers get it into their heads that people who pay the taxes and their wages want a road system of good quality before they make it look pretty?

Could they also explain to me why the Clitheroe by-pass has had a new surface laid when it is nowhere near as bad as Sparth Road, Clayton-le-Moors.

I understand Sparth Road would need completely taking up and have to be relaid from scratch.

The section of the A59 I saw was having exactly that done.

This section was in Lancashire and so would presumably be under the jurisdiction of Lancashire County Council.

So even with the restrictions of budgets, at least address the roads that are in the worst condition before attending to roads that have perfectly good surfaces.
