I MUST answer the letter by Mrs Anne Kenyon (LT, August 22). This sounds like another cover version of an old record -HGVs are responsible for all the accidents on Grane Road, Haslingden.
Yet when a weight limit is imposed we get the same radio info everyday, ie Grane Road closed due to serious accident. So let's get some things straight.
Without HGVs you and I and millions of people could not enjoy the standard of living we do with all consumables delivered by them. The ground pressure caused by modern HGV is such that they cause very little or no vibration.
HGV drivers are so highly trained nowadays, they are amongst the safest drivers in the country.
And to answer the environmentalists, our HGVs are the cleanest in the world.
So the next time you have a cup of tea, coffee or sit down for a meal, just think, everything on your table or the clothes you are wearing, has at sometime been carried on an HGV driven by a hard-working professional driver doing his or her job. So long may they carry on.
