ACCLAIMED writers are artists in their own right and their works are beneficial contributions to society. Like musicians they reach out to the psyche of ordinary folks and with it they create depth to the culture.

J K Rowling's Harry Potter series is yet another literary experience, targeted mainly for teenagers and it would make excellent project material in English Literature.

Personally, novels do not inspire me and I fail to understand the craze when Harry Potter books hit the shelves, but it is not sorcery and nor is it likely to encourage witchcraft.

Too often history has shown the consequences of ignorance on the perception of extraordinary and intelligent people with regards to their work.

There are numerous ills in all societies and we should be especially concerned with the teenage street culture of today. When grown respectable people are slain on the streets by teenage gangs revolving around a pack culture high on alcohol or drugs, then that society is in a dire need of address. What has led to the breakdown of the moral fibre?

In the meantime let's not get potty over Potter!
