MIDSUMMER is upon us and our dual carriageways are congested when lanes are blocked off by the omnipresent traffic cones as the grass cutters go to work.
The work reminds one of painting the Forth Bridge, never ending and self perpetuating.
Why the powers-that-be feel that the grass and weeds need to be cut so often, eludes me.
The disruption and delays caused is in no way proportional to the benefits gained from such an exercise.
It is simply a waste of manpower and public funds. Bark mulch or gravel chippings would be a more permanent and cost-effective answer to the problem.
