With regard to the article concerning the changing of Hyndburn's name to 'Accrington and District' (Lancashire Telegraph, June 6), I think the arguments for this are only desirable to the people of Accrington.
I never tell anyone that I live in Hyndburn because I live in Great Harwood and if the name was changed to Accrington and District, I would still say that I live in Great Harwood.
As far as investment is concerned, why would anyone invest because the name is Accrington?
Most people in the UK will not know where Accrington is any more than they know where Hyndburn is.
The name Accrington is only important to the Accringtonians and it means absolutely nothing to me.
If there is a proposal to change the name to Accrington and District then there should be a vote from the various towns excluding Accrington for obvious reasons and also it should require a two thirds majority.
