IN normal times I would be empathic with D Gordon’s call (Lancashire Telegraph Letters, March 19) to vote for the independent candidate in the coming election in the Ribble Valley. However, times are not normal.

Nearly 300,000 new migrants came into the UK last year alone — more than the 244,000 who flocked here when the Tories came to power in 2010. Also, public services are in a dreadful state because of cuts.

There are soup kitchens, food banks and half of those in poverty are in work.

We are going back to Victorian times and I do not want that for future generations of my family.

Against Labour’s Tony Blair’s advice I am going to take a step in the common-sense direction and vote Ukip.
