RE, Blackburn Royal Infirmary’s historic mosaics saved in demolition It really puzzled me when the contractors suggested “it would be difficult to save the historic mosaic”. The thing about mosaics is that they are made up of little pieces and even if the little pieces were scattered the relaying of the mosaic should be possible.
I see that they have indeed been able to do this but as still uncertain as to why they could ever suggest that a mosaic could not be saved. Indeed on Time Team they seem to find 200 year old mosaics which they can reconstruct never mind ones from 1900s.
