I am embarrassed by the attitude shown by D H Aspden (LT, Letters March 4).
Free mobility vehicle, free TV licence, £300 winter fuel allowance and he still wants more. He and I are the same age.
My husband didn’t live to draw his state pension and he died 20 years ago.
I don’t use my bus pass but rely on my aged car to get about, paying road tax, insurance and fuel.
Others I know of have to use taxis or rely on friends and family to do their shopping.
I am satisfied with Freeview but if I wanted more options I would be prepared to sacrifice something else to pay for it.
I well remember my mother and other relatives giving my grandma half-a-crown a week in the 1950s when £5 was my weekly wage.
With attitudes like that shown by Mr Aspden it’s no wonder that the younger generation are resentful of the help we get from the state.
I must admit to resenting the 25p increase in my weekly pension I have received since I reached my 80th birthday. It is so insignificant that I doubt if any of us would miss it and it could be put to better use.
