FOR the next four days thousands of hopefuls will be converging on Birmingham’s NEC in the hope their dog will be named Best in Show at Crufts.
For many getting their dogs ready for the biggest pet show in the world is a real labour of love.
Jackie and Michael Day, from Whalley, will be showing their beloved Afghan Hounds for the 37th year in a row.
Getting their two dogs show ready – shampooing, drying and brushing – takes hours, but the couple believe they will look wonderful as they glide along the show mat.
Colne police officer Sian Hindle, one of the youngest competitors, will be taking along her three pugs.
She has been working hard to make sure they are in tip top condition with lots of walks.
And Laura Steel will be showing her four Ibizan hounds after falling in love with the unusual breed more than a decade ago.
To those of us who see dogs just as a companion, the expense and time needed to have a show dog can be a puzzle.
But those who take part enjoy the chance to socialise with other dog lovers while hoping theirs will be judged the best.
We wish the best to all those from East Lancashire who have entered.
