I WAS very sad to read that the Lewis Textile Museum building in Blackburn is to cease to be used for the purpose for which it was donated to the town by Thomas Lewis.
Have the Labour councillors who made this decision no recollection of when they were youngsters, being taken on a tour through the museum by their parents, and being in awe of the history of the cotton industry, and how important it was to our town?
Can the powers-that-be at the Town Hall give a categorical assurance that the town's main museum will give the contents of the Lewis Textile Museum a suitably prominent display, when they are eventually taken out of storage?
Perhaps the councillors should take a look at the Town Hall's website entry for Lewis Textile Museum: "The Lewis Textile Museum on Exchange Street, facing the Town Hall and just around the corner from Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, tells the story of the town's cotton industry and features a programme of textile-based exhibitions."
Will the Town Hall website have an amended section dedicated to the Lewis Textile collection in its new location, so that visitors to the site can find out about our town's rich heritage?
Or would the Labour councillors like to airbrush out any trace of how great this part of the world was in times gone by?
