RE article the story Hall of Fame (LT, December 2), I hope the council is not taking any credit for the fact that the town hall is still standing.

During the 1960s when my father was an independent councillor, he was a lone voice in objecting to the council-sponsored vandalism that wiped any building of architectural importance from the face of Blackburn - the market hall, fish market, Crown Hotel, Thwaites Arcade and many more.

He told me that at the time, plans included the demolition of the Town Hall but funds to demolish and rebuild were not available.

So chance is the only reason that we have at least one building to admire in all this horrible jungle of concrete and glass.
