RE:Accrington traders worried about new bus station (LT, October 18).
Take note councillors and planners of Hyndburn.
You will never listen to the people and what they want. It is their town not yours.
All your costly improvements by all political parties have killed off Accrington, just like the other arrogant councils that never listen to the public and shop keepers.
The Arndale has killed off Accrington because councillors have not worked out how big branded and smaller local trading shops should be positioned in a small town so they all get a piece of the pie.
Your new super million-pound bus station on no man’s land is a joke. The old bus station should have been modernised, that is why it was built in the centre to serve a purpose not to be demolished and moved to the outskirts of the town.
Also by the time, you have finished with your bus station and bus route there will not be any shoppers to shop because they will be stuck behind the buses in congestion and pollution caused by bus lanes and more traffic lights and no entry than Blackpool illuminations.
All the other big towns are ripping up bus lanes and pull-outs due to the fact they cause congestion and pollution.
I presume the new taxi rank planned for the old bus station is to take paying shoppers to the new bus station on no man's land at the other side of town.
You do not need expensive surveys and planners looking at computer layouts to see if the bus station is a good plan.
Anybody with common sense would work that out in ten minutes not millions later wasted on one of many of your recent plunders of the town.
