NAFEESA Shan's article in the Lancashire Telegraph highlighting the problems of used cars being sold on Black-burn Road was welcome indeed.

However, I feel the article did not go far enough to explain the extent of this problem.

Firstly, the parking bays being occupied by these cars are governed by a clearly-displayed waiting restriction of 30 minutes in any hour during Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.

Secondly, under the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005, it is an offence for two or more vehicles to be parked on a public highway within 500m of each other where the purpose is for them to be sold.

Contrary to the article, it is not always the case that the vehicles are removed each evening.

So at any time at least one offence is being committed. In light of this, I find the comments from the council that they are "investigating and it would be inappropriate to comment" and police that they "would get involved if the cars caused an obstruction" don't go far enough.

I would welcome tougher action by the police and/or the council to ensure that these vehicles are traded elsewhere in a law-abiding manner, and not to the detriment of the residents in the locality of Blackburn Road.
