THE report of the runaway car carried gave you the chance to report and inform. You reported a badly applied handbrake. The additional information was that the car should have been in gear.
Have you the courage and public duty to amend this to avoid other such accidents? Most modern cars have disc brakes all round and these "relax" after some time.
Section 226 of the Highway Code advises that wheels are left so that they will engage the pavement if the car moves and indicates which gear to use, but so long as first or reverse is used, the engine should resist movement. For automatics use park.
