THE eye-catching headline (LT, November 25) was New centre will cater for everyone', but then Coun Nuttall went on to explain why because of the new marvellous pool and lack of parking space there is little space left for a sports hall.' All was not lost however, as he further explained how a new sports hall will be built at Darwen Vale High School, which will be due for completion in November 2007.

By anyone's book however, this is a two-centre development separated by the busy A666 and the headline does not match his text and this prompts me to wonder which planet the councillor inhabits and whether he thinks the public are all gullible.

All need not be lost for Darweners through 2007 when there will be no baths or sports hall in the town.

There is always neighbouring Bolton. It is sending out brochures which list all the public leisure facilities on offer in the Bolton area.

Very impressive and tempting they are too, as long as you will be able to get through the town centre traffic queues at the Circus to get there.

One thing you will notice is that all the Bolton leisure centres boast six-lane pools, have sports halls on site and 50 to 60 station gyms, rather than the massive JJB-style gym to be built in Darwen alongside the eight lane pool.

Do they know something in Bolton that our councillors do not?

Or when they were planning were they just more sensible and fair to all their leisure centre users.

Therefore deciding that the better part of wisdom was not to opt for the superb swimming and gym facilities they are offering in Darwen to the detriment of sports hall users, the racquets sports, five-a-side soccer, indoor bowling fraternity, but to cater for them on single sites?
