I would seriously urge councillors and others to seek legal advice before taking any action against payday loan companies, (LT, August 1) In my opinion, you are either breaking the law or not acting within the spirit of it.

This would leave an authority open to damages.

You cannot in this day and age, under both UK and EU law, wilfully favour one business over another by restricting where they can or cannot advertise and trade.

Anti-competitive behaviour which may affect trade within the UK is specifically prohibited by the Competition Act 1998 and the Enterprise Act 2002.

By all means express an opinion about what they do in their business, but don't be so silly as to take the actions you propose, unless you are personally going to accept liability for any future litigation and penalties.

I don't want any money earmarked for potholes being used to pay-off any pay day loan companies’ legal actions.
