RE: ‘Blackburn with Darwen Council boss approves scheme to slow motorists down’ – hold a meeting, empathise with the residents who raise concerns, decide to implement speed limits, put up all the necessary signs and paint the road markings.
Then – do nothing to enforce it. Within a few weeks, everything is back to normal.
Motorists in the area where I live – Coun Bateson’s ward – still drive at speeds that are far greater than the normal speed limit, let alone the newer one.
The only time you see any police in the area is when they, too, are speeding to some incident.
There is no point in taking the registration numbers nor videoing the offenders, as the police are not interested. So I say, why bother? It will not work until we have convictions for speeding on a regular basis. Only then will people take notice of the law.
And now they tell me they intend to put a zebra crossing, close to a blind bend, for pedestrians to use. Anyone daft enough to use that crossing, has to have a serious death wish.
Perhaps our esteemed councillors would like to pay us a visit and do a little traffic observation, say around 5.30 to 6pm on any weekday, and see exactly what I see.
