I AM an ex-professional driver having driven over a million miles in and around Blackburn, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.
The problem is not with the Grane Road but with the drivers.
You should always drive according to the conditions of the road at the time.
There are a number of areas on this road that will test any driver – variable speed limits, blind junctions, blind bends, adverse cambers, and other drivers’ actions to mention but a few. However, when we passed our driving test and we earned our licences we should have been competent to be able to safely drive on any road in any condition.
Because this is an open road, I believe that a few drivers who think they are the best in the world just put their foot down and go for it, when the truth is that their level of competence is not what they think it is.
Over-estimation of personal abilities is one of the biggest causes of accidents that has been recognised.
If your level of competence is not great, then drive at a slower speed and give the rest of us a chance.
