I have been driving on the Grane Road for 30 years without a problem, touch wood (‘Five injured in two-car crash’, LT, July 30).

From what I see, it is speed and unfamiliarity with the road which are the two main problems.

Get an impatient driver stuck behind a vehicle being driven more slowly for whatever reason, and problems can result – because of human nature.

And it has got much worse since the M65 opened to Guide. The fact that it is a direct link from the M66/A56 to the M65, although not advertised as such, means a lot of drivers think they don’t need to adjust their driving from when they were on the motorway.

The speed limits are just about right as they are now, but they need enforcing and I agree that ‘average speed’ cameras would appear to be the best answer.

Something needs doing for the sake of the vast majority of safe drivers who don’t want or deserve to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
