I READ about the former Lancashire county leader being criticised over ‘imposing his animal welfare views on the Muslim community’.
The government’s own Animal Welfare Council has consistently found that Halal slaughter is cruel, but political correctness stops anything being done about it.
It is outrageous that a local authority supplies only Halal food in school meals.
Not only does this extend the cruelty beyond what faith groups demand, but it also ensures that the meat can only come from Muslim sources because it requires the prayers too.
No-one seems to care that some other religions (Sikhism, for example) specifically forbid their followers to eat meat that has been prayed over by those outside their own religion.
Why should their kids be subjected to this?
On the grounds of animal welfare and the rights of the wider community, Halal should not be served exclusively, ever.
