As reported in the Lancashire Telegraph (LT, July 29), why is Blackburn allowed to get away with having illegal signs and road markings?
In the case of badly placed and signs which could not be read as indicated in your paper, why are the traffic officers allowed to issue parking tickets and fines? Why have members of the public not made a formal appeal for the errors made by the council?
In the case of parking on Church Street, some years ago in your paper, it was reported that the lines and bays were not legal as the bays were indicated by studs and not while lines. The response from the council was that it was not acceptable to pain white lines on the surface of the newly laid road surface. Now the council have laid white lines down at the exit from the parking area indicating that you cannot turn left and also marking the waiting area for the traffic lights.
There are so many illegal and not accurate signage in Blackburn that I am not surprised that no one seems to have made an official appeal over any so called infringements. Why can I not drive down Ainsworth Street in my car? There is no official sign to indicate this. True this is printed on the road but where it states buses only. Taxis use this – why? And where are the official signs. There is same situation when you want to leave Salford and go up Penny Street (temporarily closed for demolition work). There is an incorrect sign alongside Morrison’s, which has been completely wrong since it was erected many years ago and now no longer applicable but still remains on display.
What about all the lack of line painting in Blackburn. The council have spent a huge amount of money last month replacing all the yellow lines on Railway Road and the Boulevard. Why, when in a couple of months time this area will not be used by buses as they move into a temporary bus station now being constructed prior to a new one being built? There are so many examples where white lines have completely disappeared. Most pedestrian crossing are illegal due to lack of white lining and painting. One example of this is on leaving Blackburn there are no lines at all, or very faint, on Copy Nook, Furthergate, junction of Harwood Road, Burnley Road and the Whitebirk roundabouts. These badly worn road marking cannot be seen in the dark or when the roads are wet. When are they going to do something about it?
