REGARDING the recent stories and letters about the proposed housing plan for the Ribble Valley – the term NIMBY gets bandied about on message boards for anyone who’s against building.
I don’t recall anyone who I meet when in I’m back in the Ribble Valley saying that the country needs more houses building as long as it’s not near them.
Generally, the ones who throw it around are people who the proposed development doesn’t affect but would be the first to whine should it happen to them.
Last week saw Heathrow Airport submit plans for a third runway.
Now in my view it’s essential that it gets built, but there is no way I’m going to start laughing at those who are going to be served with a compulsory purchase order and calling them NIMBYs.
