English Heritage did not have to pick Darwen as an example of good practice in refurbishing historic buildings and bringing them back into use (‘Town centre is a winner, says heritage team’, LT, July 10).
They could have chosen any town in England but they chose to pick Darwen.
Does this mean Darwen is perfect? No – nowhere is.
Does it mean that there is much to be proud of in Darwen town centre? Yes.
And we should be proud that English Heritage recognises this as well.
