AS a man of no faith myself, I would like to see that all of us, regardless of colour, background or faith, show our support to all those Muslims who are beginning their fast today.
This holy month of Ramadan is about so much more than going hungry during the daylight.
It is about understanding what others go through and it is about being charitable to your fellow man and those less fortunate than ourselves.
The weather for the first week at least is going to be incredibly hot and without being able to drink water during the day, this is going to be extra hard for those who are either not used to the weather or are beginning their first ever fast.
I hope that there is a lot of care and consideration towards those choosing to fast this year and I hope the non-Muslim community can show their support and acceptance of other people’s faiths and beliefs.
As far as I am aware, the Eid celebrations won’t be going on until August and I know that this will be a time for celebration and love.
Even if you are not a follower of any faith or religion, I ask that you join in the tradition of giving, even if it is simply donating your change from your lunch to a charity box.
We have such a large Asian population in this region and we should not fear but celebrate and embrace that.
Ramadan Mubarak to all those beginning their fast tomorrow.
And to those who are not, enjoy the sunny weather.
