Coun Roy Davies has slammed the ‘atrocious’ state of a busy Darwen road junction (LT, June 25).
Part of the problem here was the way the traffic calming road ‘humps’ or junction tables, or whatever they are officially called, were constructed in the first place.
It was clear from very early on that they were suffering very badly from erosion and developing potholes.
I suspect that they were never built to withstand the volume of traffic, including HGVs, that use Sudellside Street and Olive Lane.
They most certainly ARE in a dangerous state – even when driving cautiously, I find that hitting the many potholes makes it difficult to keep a consistent driving line.
What’s needed is, instead of repairing them by just chucking some tarmac in the holes (which is what has been done in the past) they need to be ripped up and rebuilt properly. It would be cheaper in the long run.
