Only once – and that was in a report that the French government had passed the law allowing same-sex marriages – have I read that it was an EU directive.
Why has no mention of this directive been made here? Was our Prime Minister who fought so hard to get the law passed afraid of being seen as an EU puppet, or did he want to claim the idea was his and his alone?
Even more disturbing is that nowhere did same-sex marriage legislation appear in the Conservative manifesto. This is particularly disturbing.
Are we to assume that in future, Conservative manifestos are not worth the paper they are written on?
It is well known that many of David Cameron’s pre-election promises have been broken, but to slip in what is a major change in our laws once he was elected smacks more of a dictatorship than a democracy.
