Potholes damage vehicles, but what is very rarely reported is that the potholes that can ‘ding’ your alloys can also seriously injure motorcyclists, or even lead to fatalities where a biker is thrown from his bike into the path of another vehicle (‘Busy roundabout on A59 has more holes than an Aero bar’, LT, June 22). The risk of this is far greater on a roundabout than on a straight stretch of road, for obvious reasons.
So come on, Peter Maize, environment directorate commissioner at Lancashire County Council, exactly where are your priorities?
Are we going to wait for a fatality or serious injury before this road is repaired? This roundabout has been in a very poor state for months.
You are aware of it, and presumably Lancashire County Council (or more precisely, tax payers) will bear the financial consequences should a biker be killed or seriously injured.
