There is over-supply of retailing and office space in Burnley, and it’s sub-prime.
When one considers that over a great many years Burnley has been losing population, the performance of the retail core is quite remarkable.
The owners of The Charter Walk are reconfiguring units and are working hard to secure lettings; and from my casual, uninformed observations they seem to be doing a very good job in exceedingly difficult circumstances.
The Church Street retail park is a very different proposition.
It is, in truth, a park located on a limb that has been re-modelled from a single-base former supermarket.
It strikes me as the sort of property proposition that will fly when times are good and there’s a tail-wind, but will struggle to reach take-off velocity when times are hard and there’s a head-wind.
