IN response to your story about UFO sightings in Haslingden (LT, June 21), sometime around the Christmas/New Year holiday in 2008/09 a dozen or so giant lights were spotted hovering over Holcombe Hill (Peel Monument).
They’d initially been separate and came from different directions but congregated over the hill with even spacing in a small grid where they remained still for around an hour.
(I found out from Facebook that something weird was going on above Holcombe Hill and checked it out). From people on Facebook I worked out they had been there for quite a while and heard of how they came together from different directions.
I watched them above the hill not moving and was messaging on Facebook, getting many replies from people seeing the same thing.
After watching for about 10 minutes, the lights began to rise and fall at a reasonably fast speed, before they split apart and in odd-numbered groups set off in different directions at various heights.
Some headed north in the direction of Rawtenstall whilst a single set off very quickly in a direction over towards Bolton.
Three (or it could have been four) set off slowly at first but picked up speed towards Bury.
I didn’t see where the others went, I assumed they headed across the hill/moors and were hidden from my line of sight by Holcombe Hill.
