AN Edgworth man has appeared in court charged with 56 counts of causing unnecessary suffering and failing to meet the needs of horses in his care.
Phil Davies, 64, is being prosecuted by the RSPCA after concerns were raised over the welfare of 16 horses kept on his land near Plantation Road, Edgworth.
The farmer, of Quarlton Manor Farm, also in Plantation Road, pleaded not guilty at Hyndburn Magistrates Court yesterday, when 52 counts of causing suffering to a protected animal and four counts of failing to ensure the welfare of an animal were put to him.
The case was adjourned until May 23 for a case management hearing.
