RESIDENTS are being urged to be extra vigilant over the festive period after a spate of burglaries.

Over the last two weeks, there have been three burglaries and a number of thefts in Edgworth and Chapeltown.

Thieves have stolen high value items including LCD televisions, jewellery and electrical items which have all occurred during the day.

Stone has also been stolen from outside people's properties.

Police Community Support Officer Chris Williams said: "Edgworth is a small community and I appeal to anyone with information about who is responsible for these burglaries to come forward.

"I urge residents in Edgworth to be extra vigilant and take extra precautions to secure their homes this festive period.

Residents are being advised to: Remember to lock all doors and windows, even if you are at home.

Fit dead locks to the doors and don't leave the keys where they can be seen or reached through the letter box - keep them out of sight.

Fit key-operated locks to all windows. This will make it more difficult for the burglar to break through.

Don't leave Christmas presents or packaging from expensive items on display.

Leave a light on in a room using a timer switch and remember to draw the curtains when you go out at night.
