CHILDREN are planting trees in their community this week.
Pupils from Turton and Edgworth C of E Primary School will be planting native apple trees in a new community orchard.
Coun Jean Rigby, for the North Turton with Tockholes ward, has worked with Lancashire county countryside officers to secure funding for the trees at the unsued paddock in Birches Road, Edgworth.
Coun Rigby said: "The trees we will be planting are all native apple trees and should bear lots of fruit in years to come.
"I'm sure that future generations of children from this area will enjoy eating them.
"This has proved to be a very popular project and we are busy applying for further funding so that more work can be carried out on the orchard."
