In a statement, the firm said: “Holden’s Ice Cream is renowned for quality and is popular with locals and visitors to the area.
“The ice cream business was born out of the need for the grocery store to satisfy the demand for ice cream and the opportunity to provide a homemade product.
“The grocery business and the ice cream sales have for many years been compatible, one supporting the other at different times of the year.
“However the ice cream brand now continues to grow in popularity, particular from visitors to the area who enjoy ‘rounding-off’ a country walk with a delicious ice cream.
“People congregate outside the shop enjoying their ice cream and watching the world go by. The congestion outside has grown to a point where the footpath is hard to navigate through.
“The owner decided in order to satisfy demand and maintain a ‘good neighbour’ status it would be prudent to provide internal accommodation where customers could enjoy their ice cream and ease the congestion outside.”
