EDGWORTH medical centre is set to expand.
The GP surgery complex is to add two consulting rooms in a new single-storey extension.
The surgery was set up in 1998 close to the crossroads of Blackburn Road, Bolton Road, Broadhead Road and Bury Road in the village centre next to the White Horse Inn.
It was extended last year with additional offices.
Last week Blackburn with Darwen planning committee has approved the new consulting room extension. Councillors gave the plan the green light despite concerns from a neighbour about the effect of the new building on his ornamental trees and on drainage in his garden.
Granting permission for the development, the committee said no existing trees or hedges in the immediate area could lopped, topped, felled, uprooted, pruned or have their roots cut without prior approval from the council.
They also said the materials used must match the existing centre.
