I'm feeling good today after successive runs.
The first on Monday was exactly 2.4 miles, according to my neat Nike jogging app on the ipod, which I now strap to my arm in this handy gadget from ebay. I may run like idiot but at least I look the business.
My course through Cliviger is hilly, but the inclines come at the start when I'm fresh, and I complete the run to the Ram Inn still full of energy.
I even resist going in for a pint.
The following day I'm on a night shift on the sportsdesk, which gives me time to go for another run in the morning.
I've been told to vary my courses, so drive to Towneley Park in Burnley.
The sky is a piercing blue, and the temperature has managed to rise into double figures. Perfect conditions.
The change of scene spurs me on, and as I run through the middle of the park, with the picturesque Towneley Hall standing impressively ahead, I almost ... just almost ... began to enjoy the jog.
Yes, I still hate running, but with my ipod spewing out my favourite tunes, I begin to get into a rhythm.
I love to play the ipod shuffle game. I've got almost 1,000 songs stored, and today I got the classics Better the Devil You Know from Kylie; Bananarama's Venus and Respectable from Mel and Kim.
That's a pretty sad admission - people have been jailed for less - but there's something about Stock, Aiken and Waterman that keeps the adrenalin pumping.
I make two laps around the park, and even end with a sprint finish (only because I'm going downhill).
I've clocked up exactly three miles, half of the distance I'll have to run in July.
I'm having Wednesday off to recuperate ... and may even toast my two runs with a bottle of wine.
I mean, you can't be good all of the time.
